LTFRB reviewing PISTON's requests amid strike

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is reviewing requests made by Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON), which has been on a three-day nationwide strike.

Some of PISTON's demands, such as waiving penalties and extending franchise validity to five years, are being studied and may be feasible.

However, the removal of the consolidation requirement and scrapping the public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program entirely remain non-negotiable but can be simplified.

PISTON members may continue operating beyond December 31 if they file an intention to consolidate with LTFRB.

A meeting between PISTON representatives and LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III is expected soon to further negotiate demands.
