DOTr considers monorail shuttle to connect LRT-1 NAIA stations

On Saturday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that two new LRT-1 stations near Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will not have a direct connection due to regulatory constraints and right-of-way considerations.

The five new stations under the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project are Redemptorist-ASEANA Station, MIA Road Station, Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) Station, Ninoy Aquino Avenue Station, and Dr. Santos Station.

While these stations aim to improve mobility for commuters heading to major transport hubs like the PITX and NAIA, regulatory requirements set by CAAP mandate a 40-meter clearance from water bodies, making direct connections challenging.

The DOTr is studying the possibility of establishing a monorail shuttle train to connect the Ninoy Aquino Avenue station to the NAIA Terminal 1 as an alternative solution.

Meanwhile, LRMC is talking to several transport operators and local government units to provide shuttles for those who need to be dropped or picked up from the station to the airport.
