Lorenzana OKs NDRRMC control of dams during typhoons

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana is in favor of giving the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) control over dam discharge protocols during typhoons.

Lorenzana, who chairs the NDRRMC, stated that this proposal would prevent blame shifting if something goes wrong.

He emphasized the importance of gradual water release before typhoon arrival to avoid calamities, especially from strong storms.

Lorenzana noted that while dam operations should typically be under the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) during normal conditions, NDRRMC control is necessary during storm events.
