LGUs suspend classes due to Typhoon Marce

Some local government units (LGUs) have suspended classes on Wednesday, November 6, and extended the suspension into Thursday, November 7, due to typhoon Marce. Classes were also suspended in several areas for Friday, November 8.

In Camarines Sur, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, Quirino, Cagayan, Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Baguio City, Abra, Benguet, Alcala, Santo Niño, and Dipaculao, Aurora, all levels of schooling are closed until further notice. Additional suspensions were announced for Friday in areas such as Dagupan City, Eastern Samar, Salcedo, and other parts of Pangasinan.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 has been raised over the northern and central portions of mainland Cagayan including Babuyan Islands and the eastern portion of Apayao, while Signal No. 2 remains hoisted in Batanes, parts of Isabela, and other areas. Signal No. 4 was also hoisted in the northern portion of Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and parts of Abra and Ilocos Sur.

Marce made its second landfall near Sanchez-Mira in Cagayan at 9:00 p.m., with typhoon-force winds expected within 12 hours in these areas. Potentially life-threatening conditions due to storm surge inundation and torrential rainfall will be experienced in the Babuyan Islands, northern portions of mainland Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and Apayao.

The typhoon is forecast to bring intense to torrential rains in Cagayan, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte until Thursday night, while Batanes and Abra may experience heavy to intense rains.
