Ang Bumbero Party-list nominee shot dead

Leninsky Bacud, a nominee of the Ang Bumbero Party-list for the upcoming May 12 midterm elections, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen near his residence in Barangay 435, Sampaloc, Manila on Monday, April 28.

Witnesses reported that two gunmen riding motorcycles arrived at P. Guevarra Street and opened fire on Bacud as he alighted from his SUV around 6 p.m., resulting in an exchange of gunfire with a nearby police officer who sustained injuries to his foot.

Bacud was rushed to the University of Santo Tomas Hospital but was declared dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds, while investigations revealed that he had just parted ways with ABP's first nominee Jose Antonio Goitia shortly before the incident.

Manila Police District's homicide division has initiated an investigation into the incident and is conducting a hot pursuit operation to identify and apprehend the suspects. The police have identified two suspects behind the shooting according to Bombo Radyo reports.

Under Section 3 of Republic Act No. 7491, also known as 'Party-List System Act,' a group of persons may register as a party with the Commission on Elections and become members of the House of Representatives.
