Comelec condemns shooting of ABP nominee Leninsky Bacud

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) strongly condemned the shooting death of Ang Bumbero ng Pilipinas (ABP) party-list nominee Leninsky Bacud in Manila on Monday night.

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia emphasized that ballots, not bullets, should determine election outcomes and called for respect for life during elections.

Bacud was shot multiple times by unidentified gunmen along P. Guevarra Street in Sampaloc, Manila.

Garcia noted an internal dispute within the ABP party-list over two sets of nominees filed for the May 12 midterm elections.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna vowed to pursue justice and directed the Manila Police District to investigate thoroughly and ensure the safety of Bacud's family and potential witnesses.
