Lacson suggests reversing EDSA Busway direction

Former Senator Ping Lacson suggested reversing the direction of EDSA Busway buses to prevent unauthorized vehicles from using the exclusive lane.

Lacson proposed this solution during a press conference on Friday, Feb. 28 in San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan, where he acknowledged that it is not an original idea but worth considering.

The former senator and administration's senatorial bet for the upcoming 2025 elections emphasized that his proposal aims to avoid head-on collisions and eliminate exemptions from busway rules.

Lacson cited Taipei as an example of a city implementing counterflow buses, stating that it avoids misinterpretation of benefits for personal use.

The MMDA is tasked with reviewing the infrastructure reconfiguration needed to implement Lacson's suggestion of reversing bus direction on EDSA.

Earlier this week, the Philippine National Police (PNP) used the restricted lane due to an alleged urgent need, which drew public criticism and prompted Malacañang to remind against using 'emergency' as an excuse for violating busway rules.
