Lacson: Admin's political machine failed in midterms

Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson, a candidate backed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., admitted that the administration's political machinery failed during the midterm elections.

Lacson attributed the surprising election results to factors such as younger voters and former President Rodrigo Duterte's influence, noting that developments involving Duterte also affected voter behavior.

He highlighted that Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan, who were not expected to win in pre-election polls, benefited from the competition between the administration and Duterte supporters, securing decisive victories based on unofficial tallies.

Lacson emphasized the importance of democracy, stating that ultimately, it is the people who decide election outcomes despite the failure of the political machinery.

The veteran politician acknowledged there was much to learn from the recent midterm elections but stressed that an honest government should transcend party or coalition affiliations.
