Japan clinches Olympic berth with win over Cape Verde

Japan secured its spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics by defeating Cape Verde, 80-71, on Saturday in the FIBA World Cup.

Japan's strong second quarter performance, outscoring Cape Verde 33-18, helped them build a significant halftime lead of 50-37.

Joshua Hawkinson led Japan with 29 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Keisei Tominaga contributed 22 points.

With this victory, Japan finished the World Cup with a 3-2 record, securing their position as the top Asian team in the tournament.

Japan's coach Tom Hovasse expressed pride in his team's performance, noting that they have gained respect from opponents and are now on everyone’s radar.
