Gilas Pilipinas secures Olympic Qualifying spot after FIBA World Cup

Gilas Pilipinas secured a ticket to the Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) after finishing 24th at the FIBA World Cup on September 2, ending their campaign with a 96-75 win over China.

Despite missing an outright berth as the best Asian team, Gilas finished third in Asia and among the top 13 of the next-best-ranked teams that haven't secured Olympic spots.

The Philippines' performance marked an improvement from their previous World Cup finish in 2019 when they placed 32nd.

Gilas will now compete for one of four OQT berths to qualify for the Paris Olympics, joining seven other teams that have already qualified directly.
