Imee Marcos quits Bongbong's senatorial ticket over Duterte arrest controversy

Reelectionist Senator Imee Marcos announced Wednesday that she is leaving President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.'s senatorial ticket.

In her statement, Senator Marcos cited actions by the administration during former President Rodrigo Duterte's arrest as contradicting her ideals and principles, specifically criticizing government officials for invoking executive privilege and suggesting a lack of transparency.

Imee also accused cabinet officials of concealing 'essential facts,' even questioning whether Duterte's arrest may have violated the country's sovereignty.

Navotas City Representative Toby Tiangco, campaign manager for Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, said they respect Senator Marcos's decision and acknowledged her independence.

During his endorsement speeches in Cavite and Laguna, President Marcos did not mention his sister Imee and instead asked supporters to back the 11 remaining senatorial candidates on his slate.
