Iloilo confirms first Omicron case from Kenya

Iloilo City recorded its first case of the Omicron variant involving a 46-year-old unvaccinated seafarer from Kenya who returned to Iloilo on December 24.

The seafarer tested negative for COVID-19 in Cebu on December 18 and again on December 27 when he arrived in Iloilo, but the second test was positive for Omicron.

He is currently isolated at a facility in Barangay Sooc, Arevalo, where he will remain until his repeat RT-PCR test results are negative.

Contact tracing is ongoing to identify and monitor those who may have been exposed during his travels.
