Octa: Ten cities outside Metro Manila have nearly full ICUs

The Octa Research team reported on Tuesday, June 22, that the intensive care units (ICUs) in ten cities outside Metro Manila are nearly full, with ICU bed occupancy ranging from 86% to 97%. These cities include Davao, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Tagum, Cotabato, San Pablo, Koronadal, Tuguegarao, and Batangas.

The report highlighted that full ICU capacity indicates severe strain on the healthcare system and potential difficulty in managing critically ill patients. Additionally, Octa flagged Iloilo City, Koronadal, and Bacoor as having reached 100% ICU occupancy from June 13 to 19, indicating intense pressure on their health systems.

Seven other areas were also noted at critical risk with over 85% of ICU beds occupied. Cagayan de Oro, Baguio City, and Tagbiliran had ICUs under high risk, with bed occupancies between 70-84%. These findings underscore the urgent need for additional healthcare resources in these regions.
