Iloilo airport shuts down for emergency runway repairs

The Iloilo International Airport in Cabatuan town unexpectedly shut down on Sunday morning, December 22, for emergency repairs on its runway.

Airport supervisor Art Parreño informed local media that the maintenance was necessary to address two potholes and ensure flight safety.

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued at 7:00 a.m. indicated that CAAP would conduct runway repair, with the NOTAM being lifted by 11:00 a.m., allowing flights to resume boarding procedures by 2:10 p.m.

Nine flights were affected, including three cancellations and five delays, impacting connectivity for travelers and local businesses.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas expressed concern over the disruption and its impact on the local economy, promising to summon CAAP for further explanation.
