Iligan mayor clarifies Covid boosters not mandatory

Iligan City Mayor Frederick Siao clarified on Thursday that Covid-19 booster shots are not mandatory but encouraged for government employees and workers in public places.

Siao issued Executive Order (EO) No. 12-A earlier, which appeared to make the booster shots compulsory, leading to criticism and concerns.

The EO mandates full vaccination including boosters for both government and private sector workers engaging with the public, as well as academe and vendors.

Siao emphasized the importance of being fully vaccinated for those in constant contact with the public due to rising Covid-19 cases in Iligan.

As of Aug. 15, Iligan City recorded 57 active cases and 12 new recoveries, with Siao requiring only fully vaccinated individuals, including booster shots, to interact with students as schools reopen.
