Nora Aunor laid to rest with full military honors

On Tuesday morning, Ian De Leon paid tribute to his late mother, Nora Aunor, at a state necrological service held in Manila's Metropolitan Theater.

Ian was the only family member who delivered a speech during the event, emphasizing that Nora's legacy would continue to live on in the hearts of Filipinos and thanked Noranians for their support.

He recalled how his mother dedicated herself to her craft and portrayed characters reflecting societal realities, inspiring viewers with each performance, adding that she was named a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts in 2022.

After the service at the Manila Metropolitan Theater, Nora's coffin was carried out for her funeral at Libingan ng mga Bayani where full military honors were given before her remains were laid to rest next to fellow National Artists Ishmael Bernal and Marilou Diaz-Abaya.

During the funeral rites, Aunor was honored with a 21-gun salute, flag-folding ceremony, and the final sounding of 'Taps', a patriotic ceremonial tube played during military funerals.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared April 22 as a national day of mourning for Aunor, and among those who attended to pay their respects were Iza Calzado, Imelda Papin, Nadia Montenegro, Robin Padilla, Philip Salvador, Bong Go, and National Artist Ricky Lee.
