House party leaders meet to prep for 20th Congress, discuss Romualdez as Speaker, VP impeachment

Leaders of political parties in the House of Representatives met on Friday to discuss preparations for the incoming 20th Congress, including committee assignments and organizational concerns.

House Deputy Speaker David 'Jay-jay' Suarez highlighted the need for extensive work given the large number of congressmen and a three-year term, focusing on administrative arrangements and legislative priorities.

Several legislators expressed support for Leyte 1st district Representative Martin Romualdez as the next Speaker of the House, with Suarez stating that Lakas CMD is fully behind him.

The meeting also addressed the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte in the Senate, with prosecutors expected to present articles of impeachment against her.

House prosecutors including Mamamayang Liberal nominee Leila De Lima and Akbayan nominee Chel Diokno are set to join the House prosecution panel alongside other representatives.
