Co reduces Duterte's Davao City budget from P2B to P500M

House Appropriations Committee Chair Elizaldy Co confirmed on Friday that the budget allocation for Rep. Paolo Duterte's Davao City 1st District was reduced from P2 billion to P500 million.

Co explained during an online interview that social media posts claim Davao City received P13 billion in the first year of the 18th Congress, P35 billion in the second year, and another P13 billion in the third year.

He cited concerns from the Department of Public Works and Highways about excessive funding in recent years, leading to a reduction of allocations for Davao City.

Co clarified that an average district typically receives between P500 million and P2 billion per year, emphasizing the need for balanced development across all districts.

Rep. Duterte has voiced opposition to the current people's initiative on social media, stating it is not reflective of the public’s voice but rather a few individuals seeking to maintain power.

The committee’s verification process is independent of any political rifts and aims to ensure equitable distribution of funds while addressing concerns about previous high allocations.
