House likely to hold special session to extend Bayanihan Law

The House of Representatives is likely to hold a special session after the sine die adjournment of the first regular session of the 18th Congress.

Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano urged lawmakers to be on standby in the next few days for the special session.

House Bill 6953, which seeks to extend the effectivity of Republic Act 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Law until Sept. 30, is still under consideration at the second reading stage.

The House Committee of the Whole approved a measure on Wednesday night to extend President Duterte's special powers for another three months.

A PHP162-billion standby fund was also specified in the proposed measure to support response measures addressing the Covid-19 pandemic.
