House leaders reject VP Duterte's impeachment calls

House Assistant Majority Leader Jefferson Khonghun suggests that Vice President Sara Duterte's claim of contacting an assassin could be grounds for impeachment, but there are no current discussions about filing an impeachment case against her.

Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr., Deputy Speaker David Suarez, and House Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe reiterated on Friday that the House is not currently considering impeachment proceedings against Duterte despite calls for transparency and accountability.

The House Good Government and Public Accountability Committee is investigating alleged misuse of PHP612.5 million in confidential and intelligence funds received by the Office of the Vice President and Department of Education during Duterte's tenure as education secretary.

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada emphasized that pursuing impeachment would only cause division and distract from urgent national issues, advocating instead for reconciliation between President Marcos Jr. and Vice President Duterte.

House leaders vowed to act fairly and transparently should an impeachment complaint be filed but stressed their primary focus remains on governance and improving the lives of Filipinos.
