House suspends session amid coup threat against Cayetano

The House of Representatives suspended its session on Monday after convening for only 18 minutes due to an alleged coup threat against Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano.

Deputy Speaker Raneo Abu declared the suspension until Tuesday following a roll call and first reading of measures.

No motion was raised to declare leadership positions, including the speakership, vacant.

Presidential son Paolo Duterte had sent a message on Sunday indicating his intention to ask the Mindanao Bloc to move for declaring Speaker Cayetano's position and 22 Deputy Speakers' positions vacant due to disagreements over budget allocations under the proposed PHP4.5-trillion national budget for 2021.
