Hataman clan members vie for Basilan's top posts in 2025 elections

Members of the prominent Hataman clan are competing for key political positions in Basilan's May 2025 elections.

Governor Hadjiman Hataman-Salliman and his son Jimael Salam, a lawyer and current 2nd District Board Member, filed their certificates of candidacy on Friday under different party banners: PFP for Jimael and Basilan Unity Party-Liberal Party for Hadjiman.

Incumbent Basilan Lone District Rep. Mujiv Hataman, who is Hadjiman's brother, also filed his COC for governor under the Basilan Unity Party-Liberal Party on Monday.

Vice Mayor Kifli Hataman-Salliman, Jimael’s brother and Hadjiman’s youngest son, filed his COC for mayor on Oct. 3.

Hadjiman announced he will run for vice governor alongside his son's gubernatorial bid, while Mujiv Hataman urged voters to focus on candidates' platforms rather than personal or familial issues.

Incumbent Vice Governor Yusop Alano and Maluso Mayor Hanie Bud also filed their COCs for congressman and mayor respectively.
