Bamban mayor seeks extension to file counter-affidavit on citizenship claim

The camp of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo is seeking another extension until September 16, 2024, to file her counter-affidavit addressing the Commission on Elections' (Comelec) misrepresentation complaint against her.

In a letter dated August 30 forwarded by the David Buenaventura Ang and Jamilla Law Offices, Guo's legal counsel requested an additional 15 days beyond the initial September 1 deadline due to communication difficulties with their client.

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia acknowledged receipt of the request but noted that the original filing date was August 30, meaning Guo’s camp communicated before the extended deadline expired.

Garcia instructed Comelec's legal department to conclude its preliminary investigation and submit final recommendations by next week, signaling a potential resolution to the case soon.

The complaint against Guo stems from her reported violation of the Omnibus Election Code when she claimed Filipino citizenship in her voting records.
