Comelec may terminate probe into Mayor Alice Guo if she misses Wednesday deadline

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will terminate the preliminary investigation into dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo if she fails to file her counter-affidavit by Wednesday, September 4.

Guo was arrested in Jakarta, Indonesia early Wednesday morning, complicating her ability to comply with Comelec's deadline.

Chairperson George Erwin Garcia stated that today is the last day for Guo to submit her counter-affidavit regarding the material misrepresentation charge against her.

Comelec issued a subpoena on August 13 and extended the initial filing deadline from August 27 due to public holidays, but now faces potential termination of the investigation if no response is received.

The poll body emphasized that they will proceed with recommendations to the Commission En Banc based on whether Guo complies or not, stressing the importance of swift resolution despite her arrest in Indonesia.
