Duterte supporters and progressives hold rival rallies before Marcos' Sona

A coalition of supporters linked to former President Rodrigo Duterte, including Hakbang ng Maisug, held a rally on Saturday, July 20, ahead of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s third State of the Nation Address (Sona).

The event at Liwasang Bonifacio drew about 250 participants who wore shirts with messages like 'PEACE not WAR' and 'FREEDOM FROM HUNGER & POVERTY'.

Progressive groups such as the Association of Genuine Labor Organization and others joined a parade wearing red and green shirts, holding balloons and banners.

National Capital Region Police Office chief Police Major General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stated that approximately 23,000 police and government security personnel were deployed to ensure safety during the event.

Other progressive groups and pro-government demonstrators also plan to hold their own rallies during Marcos' Sona.
