Gabriela submits CONA, names Elago lead candidate

Women's group Gabriela submitted its certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) on Friday for the 2025 elections, nominating former Kabataan Rep. Sarah Elago as their lead candidate.

Elago stated her commitment to advocating for women’s rights and supporting measures such as the Divorce Bill and SOGIE Bill, emphasizing her dedication to strengthening laws against rape and gender-based violence, promoting women's health, and supporting LGBTQ+ rights.

Gabriela also nominated Cathy Estabillo of Bantay Bigas as their second candidate and Dr. Jean Lindo, a community physician, as the third candidate.

The party aims to secure a seat in the upcoming election and continues its advocacy for women’s welfare and LGBTQ+ community support, with Gabriela currently represented by Arlene Brosas who filed her candidacy for senator under the Makabayan Bloc.

Gabriela prioritizes legislative agendas like decriminalizing abortion and supporting sex workers' rights from a framework where they consider sex work as disempowering due to lack of job opportunities.
