Amihan brings chill, frost to Benguet; temps drop below 13°C

Temperatures in La Trinidad, Benguet, dropped to a chilly 12.9°C on Monday, according to PAGASA's Benguet Radar Station.

Frost was observed covering some vegetable crops in Atok, Benguet amid the colder temperature brought by the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan).

Mount Santo Tomas in Tuba, Benguet, recorded an even lower temperature of 12.1°C.

PAGASA noted that this year's Amihan season started later than usual due to consecutive tropical storms last year and is expected to bring colder temperatures in the following weeks.

Temperatures recorded in other areas include Baguio City at 15.0°C, Malaybalay, Bukidnon at 19.0°C, Itbayat, Batanes at 19.3°C, and Quezon City at 24.7°C.

Farmers prepare for the frost every Amihan season as it can damage vegetable crops.

The state weather bureau highlighted the reasons for this year's delayed onset of cold temperatures and provided current temperature readings.
