Nora Aunor, 'Superstar of Philippine cinema,' dies at 71

Filipino actress and singer Nora Aunor, known as 'the Superstar of Philippine cinema,' passed away at 71 on April 16, 2023. Her son Ian de Leon confirmed her peaceful passing during a press conference held late afternoon on Thursday, April 17.

Nora Aunor was a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts who starred in over 170 films and received numerous awards including Best Actress at the Gawad Urian and FAMAS for 'Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos.'

Her iconic roles include films such as 'Bona,' 'Himala,' 'Bulaklak sa City Jail,' and 'The Flor Contemplation Story.' Aunor had announced plans to run for mid-term elections but later withdrew from the race.

Details regarding her wake will be shared by the family, with public viewing scheduled for April 19-20 at The Chapels at Heritage Park in Taguig City. Her interment is set for April 22 at Libingan ng mga Bayani.

The National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) also plans to hold necrological services in her honor, with further details on state funeral arrangements to be announced.
