Filipinas suffer 8-1 defeat to Japan, end Asian Games debut

The Philippine women's football team concluded its debut at the Asian Games with an 8-1 loss to Japan in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Captain Hali Long was dismissed early in the match, reducing the Filipinas to ten players and forcing them into a defensive role.

Despite these challenges, Sarina Bolden scored for the Philippines in the second half, her fourth goal of the tournament and 26th overall.

Japan's goals came primarily in the second half as they dominated play following Long's dismissal.

The loss ended the Filipinas' medal hopes at the Asian Games; Japan advanced to face China in the semifinals.
