Philippines criticizes Thai newspaper for 'land of COVID-19' headline

On Monday, August 10, the Philippine Embassy expressed deep dissatisfaction over a Thai newspaper headline that referred to the Philippines as 'the land of COVID-19'.

The criticism came after Thai Rath published an article on Sunday about Filipino teachers arriving in Bangkok.

Philippine Consul General Val Simon Roque sent an open letter to the editor-in-chief, stating that the characterization was inappropriate and unhelpful during a time when ASEAN countries are cooperating against the pandemic.
