EJ Obiena finishes seventh in Monaco Diamond League

Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena secured seventh place in the Monaco leg of the Diamond League on Friday and Saturday, clearing 5.72 meters at Stade Louis II but failing to clear 5.82 meters in his subsequent attempts.

Obiena tied with Menno Vloon for seventh place due to needing three attempts compared to Vloon's two for the same height, marking Obiena's first competition since the Stockholm leg last June where he also finished seventh.

World record holder Mondo Duplantis dominated the event by setting a new meet record of 6.05 meters, while Greece's Emmanouil Karalis took second place at 5.92 meters via countback and Kurtis Marschall secured third place after clearing 5.92m but falling short in subsequent attempts.

Despite pundits' expectations that he would not attempt a world record due to upcoming rest before competitions in September, Duplantis raised the bar to 6.29 meters but failed three times.
