Eala loses to Udvardy in Oeiras Ladies Open

Filipina tennis player Alex Eala was eliminated from the Oeiras Ladies Open in Portugal after losing to Hungary's Panna Udvardy 6-7 (4-7), 4-6 on Thursday evening (Manila time).

Eala struggled with a slow start and failed to convert crucial points, despite coming back strongly in the second set.

Udvardy, who has played five clay court tournaments since February compared to Eala's recent transition from hard courts, demonstrated superior form throughout the match.

Prior to this loss, Eala had defeated Dutch player Anouk Koevermans 6-3, 6-4 in the first round but was unable to maintain her performance against Udvardy’s experience and powerful serves.

Eala and partner Katie Volynets were also eliminated from the doubles competition on Wednesday after losing to fourth seeds Carmen Corley and Christina Rosca with a score of 6-3, 6-4.

Udvardy will face fellow Hungarian Dalma Galfi in the quarterfinals as Eala concludes her campaign and turns her focus to adjusting for the Madrid Open next week.
