Alex Eala loses to Iga Swiatek 4-6, 6-4, 2-6 in Madrid Open

Filipina tennis player Alex Eala lost to world no. 2 Iga Swiatek in a three-set match with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 2-6 during the Madrid Open's Round of 32 on Thursday night.

Eala performed exceptionally well in the first set and led by 5-2 but eventually lost momentum as Swiatek adjusted her game to secure victory.

Despite falling short, Eala expressed satisfaction with her performance, noting that she is counting on not being their last encounter.

Swiatek acknowledged early struggles before recalibrating her game mid-match to outlast the 19-year-old Filipino player in a gritty second-round battle.

Currently, according to the WTA live rankings, Eala has risen to World No. 71.
