Eala beats World No. 14 Tauson in US Open

Filipino tennis player Alex Eala secured a historic win at the US Open by defeating World No. 14 Clara Tauson in the round of 128 match.

Eala won the first set 6-3 but lost the second set 6-2, and then rallied to win the third set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (13/11).

With her victory, Eala is guaranteed at least $154,000 (P8.7 million) for reaching the round of 64.

This year's US Open offers a record-breaking total prize pot of $90 million (P5.1 billion), ensuring even players who lose in the first round receive $110,000 (P6.2 million).

Eala will face either Cristina Bucsa or Claire Liu in her next match on Wednesday.

If Eala progresses further, she could earn substantial amounts: reaching the quarterfinals guarantees at least $400,000 (P22.6 million), while winning the tournament would net her $5 million (P283.2 million).
