Marcos congratulates Eala on historic US Open win

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. congratulated Alex Eala on her historic victory at the US Open, calling her a source of pride and inspiration for the nation.

Marcos praised Eala's achievement, noting that she is 'only getting started,' and expressed support for the Filipino tennis player through social media.

Eala defeated World No. 15 Clara Tauson of Denmark in an epic first-round battle on Sunday (early Monday in Manila), winning with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (13/11).

She became the first Filipino to win a match at a Grand Slam singles tournament in the Open era, overcoming a shoulder injury and trailing 1-5 in the deciding third set before making a comeback.

In her next match, Eala will face either Spain's Cristina Bucsa or American Claire Liu, continuing to make history for Philippine tennis.
