Duterte asks Congress to amend Constitution for party-list changes

President Rodrigo Duterte has asked Congress leaders to consider amending the 1987 Constitution to change the party-list system, which he claims is being abused.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III confirmed that during a meeting on December 1, Duterte suggested looking into the possibility of constitutional amendments related to the party-list system.

Senior Deputy Speaker Salvador Leachon stated that removing the party-list system would require a constitutional amendment and not just simple legislation.

Leachon emphasized that amending the Constitution is necessary to address challenges faced by the government and nation.
