Duterte's lawyer confident of release before Sept 23, core team forms

Nicholas Kaufman, lead counsel for former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, remains confident about securing his client's release and return to the Philippines before September 23rd without reaching trial.

Kaufman announced that a provisional core team of lawyers is set to begin work next week for Duterte's defense at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The team will consist of a maximum of five members, including at least one Filipino lawyer, with additional support provided as needed.

When asked about the identities of the team members, Kaufman declined to disclose names, citing discussions with Vice President Leni Robredo and concerns over press hounding.

Former President Duterte is reportedly in good spirits despite detention at an ICC facility; Kaufman visits him daily while also receiving support from international lawyers eager to join his defense.
