Palace cites 'excellent' PH pandemic response

The Presidential Palace cited the government's response to the coronavirus pandemic as 'excellent', a year after WHO declared it.

Spokesperson Harry Roque highlighted that despite economic challenges, including a -9% GDP contraction, the Philippines managed to control the virus better than wealthier nations with more advanced healthcare systems.

Roque noted that over 12,500 Filipinos have died from COVID-19, which is lower compared to countries like the US where half-a-million people have perished.

He emphasized that the country's health facilities and funding for the sector are limited but still managed to keep cases under control relative to other nations.
