Philippines to join Phase 3 trials of Russian COVID-19 vaccine

Around 1,000 Filipinos will join Phase 3 trials of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19 starting in October.

The trial is expected to last three to six months and involve up to 3,000 volunteers if approved by the FDA.

President Duterte expressed willingness to be one of the first recipients of the Russian vaccine but may have to wait until May next year for distribution.

DOST assured that all potential vaccines being reviewed are on equal footing, including those from Russia and other countries.

CBCP lauded the government's acceptance of Russia’s offer while emphasizing the need for thorough testing and prioritizing the less fortunate in vaccine distribution.
