DTI proposes EO to curb profiteering, hoarding

The DTI is proposing an executive order (EO) to increase its powers to monitor establishments and prevent hoarding and overpricing amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said President Rodrigo Duterte has expressed support for the proposed EO, which would give the DTI, PNP, and NBI authority to visit establishments to curb profiteering and hoarding.

The order will also strictly monitor online selling of medical supplies such as masks, alcohol, and sanitizers, and crack down on fake medical devices.
