DSWD stocks food packs for Tropical Depression Crising

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has stored over three million boxes of food packs nationwide and more than 50,000 family food packs in Cagayan to prepare for Tropical Depression Crising.

DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao stated that they are coordinating with local government units in Palawan, Camiguin, Southern Leyte, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands due to expected rainfall.

In Cagayan, the Quick Response Team of the DSWD Field Office 2 has been activated and family food packs worth PHP31.36 million are ready for immediate distribution if needed.

Tropical Depression Crising was last located 625 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes with maximum wind speeds of 45 kph and gusts up to 55 kph, moving west-northwest at 20 kph. It may reach tropical storm category within the day.

The state weather bureau predicts that Crising may pass close to or make landfall over mainland Cagayan from Friday evening to Saturday morning (July 19).

Several local government units have already suspended classes in all levels for Thursday while two flights have been cancelled due to the inclement weather brought by Crising.
