DSWD prepares PHP147M relief funds for Mt. Kanlaon eruption

The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Western Visayas (DSWD-6) is preparing PHP147 million worth of relief resources as part of its response to potential eruptions of Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Island.

Phivolcs has warned of an 'eruptive unrest' due to increased seismic activity, prompting DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao to emphasize the need for preparedness and stating that a P3-million fund is on standby.

DSWD-6 has activated the camp management committee in La Castellana and prepositioned food and non-food items in Bacolod City’s regional warehouse and nearby local government units, including 37,868 family food packs and more than 15,000 non-food relief items.

The Panaad Stadium in Bacolod is identified as an evacuation center for several municipalities and cities, with DSWD personnel inspecting it on Thursday to ensure readiness.

In La Castellana, emergency vehicles are available to transport internally displaced persons, and classes have been suspended since Sept. 10.

DSWD-Central Visayas has also prepared assistance in nearby areas of Negros Island Region, including prepositioned items in Vallehermoso town and Kanlaon.
