Duterte visits Boracay to promote domestic tourism

President Rodrigo Duterte plans to visit Boracay on March 12 to promote domestic tourism and reassure the public about its safety amid the COVID-19 threat.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat stated that this is the first time Duterte will visit Boracay since it reopened, allowing him to inspect rehabilitation efforts and boost morale in the tourism industry.

Boracay's occupancy rate has dropped by 40 percent due to travel bans imposed to contain COVID-19.
