DOTr Sec Dizon cracks down on illegal taxis at NAIA T3

DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon conducted a surprise inspection of taxi services at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Saturday morning following reports of overcharging and extortion.

During the inspection, two unauthorized taxis were apprehended within minutes of Dizon's arrival, highlighting ongoing issues with illegal operations and forced overcharges.

Five airport police officers have been dismissed for their alleged involvement in the scheme, and an investigation into the matter is still underway.

Dizon emphasized the need to address the confusion within NAIA’s transport system that leaves passengers vulnerable to exploitation, particularly during terminal transfers which should be free but are often overcharged.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has stationed personnel at the airport for random checks on taxi meters and franchise documents to enforce compliance.

New measures such as tighter monitoring and improved curbside surveillance may be implemented by the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. to prevent unauthorized pickups and ensure uniform fares.
