DOTr eyes extended Skyway Stage 3 free use for EDSA rehab

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is considering extending San Miguel Corporation's concession over Skyway Stage 3 to help recover revenue losses from offering free use during EDSA's reconstruction.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon stated that President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr. declined to increase toll fees and instead opted for alternative solutions like extending the concession agreement.

San Miguel Corporation has agreed in principle to the free use of portions of Skyway Stage 3 but is working on finalizing details with DOTr, emphasizing fairness and no government subsidy.

Dizon emphasized that proper traffic management plans are being developed to handle the influx of vehicles during the toll-free period starting June 16 for a month-long dry run of the odd-even scheme.

The rehabilitation of EDSA is expected to last until 2027, with preparatory works beginning on the night of June 13 according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
