DoT seeks wider vaccine priority for tourism workers

The Department of Tourism (DoT) has requested the national task force handling the coronavirus response to include more tourism workers, such as tour guides and operators, in the priority group for vaccination.

The DoT emphasized that these frontline workers require face-to-face interaction with individuals and groups and noted that before the pandemic, the tourism sector contributed almost 13% to the country’s economic output.

By vaccinating these workers, it aims to protect them from COVID-19 and restrict the spread of the virus in tourist destinations as travel restrictions are lifted.
