DOT increases student MRT-LRT discount to 50%, introduces dedicated lanes

Starting Friday, July 4, dedicated lanes have been established at each station of the MRT-3 and LRT-2 to improve convenience for students.

The Department of Transportation announced a significant increase in the student discount from 20% to 50%, effective until 2028, allowing seamless movement through dedicated lanes.

Students must present valid student IDs or proof of enrollment at ticket counters to avail the discounted fare and single-journey tickets.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized President Bongbong Marcos's commitment to improving commuters' lives by ensuring efficient verification processes for student discounts.

Queueing systems will be implemented in LRT-1 stations to manage passenger flow and minimize delays for students, aligning with Senator Raffy Tulfo’s call for dedicated booths or lanes.

The Light Rail Manila Corp., the operator of LRT-1 line, will implement queuing systems to streamline passenger movement and mitigate travel disruptions for students availing discounts.
