Gov't assures funds for ECQ cash aid

The Philippine government has assured that it will not run out of funds for cash aid during Metro Manila's two-week enhanced community quarantine starting August 6.

Presidential Spox Harry Roque stated that available funds include GOCC dividends and savings from various agencies, with Congress able to provide a supplemental budget if needed.

Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III confirmed the government has sufficient excess revenue of around P12 billion from GOCCs for the subsidies.

Ronald Mendoza, dean of Ateneo School of Government, emphasized that continuous lockdowns are economically unsustainable and urged for more cost-efficient measures to contain COVID-19.
