DOLE provides P1.5B aid to COVID-affected OFWs

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has provided nearly P1.5 billion in assistance to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced that OFWs who lost their jobs due to the pandemic have received financial aid, while those still employed but unable to work due to quarantine measures received a $200 cash assistance which converts to P10,000 upon return to the Philippines.

DOLE's post-COVID-19 recovery plan focuses on providing livelihood programs for OFWs who are back in the country or stranded due to travel restrictions.

The department offers PHP20,000 in livelihood assistance and interest-free loans for those wishing to start their own businesses or engage in agriculture.
