Philippine officials to meet Indonesia on Mary Jane Veloso's transfer

Philippine officials are set to visit Indonesia this Friday to discuss details regarding the possible transfer of Filipina death row convict Mary Jane Veloso.

Justice Undersecretary Raul Vasquez confirmed that a letter from Indonesia has requested a face-to-face meeting between the Secretary of Justice and the Indonesian Minister for Human Rights and Corrections.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced in November that an agreement had been reached with Indonesian authorities to bring Veloso back to the Philippines by year's end, and she is now expected to return before January.

Vasquez expressed hope that Veloso could return home before Christmas, stating, 'All of us are hoping she will be here before Christmas.'

Government officials may also request a meeting with Veloso during their visit.
